Lumen App: How easy it is to control our Lumen series with your smartphone

At Rollei, we are particularly proud of our Lumen series, which combines many different products, allowing you to always set exactly the light you need for your particular shooting. These include, for example, compact LED lights, such as our Lumen Pockets, the Lumen Stick RGB, and also larger lights, such as the Lumen Studio 150. What's special about the Lumen products? We designed them so that the lights can not only be operated on the device itself but also via our smartphone app "Rollei Lumen". It is available for Apple and Android smartphones and is, of course, free. This allows you to control your light completely effortlessly with your smartphone, without even having to leave your shooting spot. Many of our customers have been relying on the operation with our Rollei Lumen App for quite some time now.

For this reason, we have compiled a few questions and their answers that our professional service team is asked quite regularly.

Can the light settings be grouped together and then controlled globally as a group, so that, for example, the brightness or color temperature of the group can be adjusted in the same ratio to each other, without having to adjust each light individually?

Yes, that is possible. Simply open the Rollei Lumen App, and the connection will be established automatically via Bluetooth. The location sharing for BLE in the app is important here. Using the lightbulb icons under "My Devices", the lights can be controlled simultaneously as a group for the same values.

Do I have to use the Lumen App, or can I also adjust everything individually on the device?

You can also adjust all Lumen products on the device without using the app.

Does the app take over the device's settings? Can I make settings on the device and then on the smartphone, with everything being synchronized?

No, the app and thus the smartphone dictate all settings. These will then overwrite those on the device.

The app asks for location sharing on its first start - why?

This is technically necessary so that the LED continuous lights can be controlled via the app. Rollei itself does not process the location information.

Are all app functions supported by all Lumen LED continuous lights?

No, the app covers all functions of our LED continuous lights. However, not all of our LED continuous lights offer all functions. For example, bi-color continuous lights cannot display RGB colors via the app either.

Overall, the app is very easy to use and self-explanatory – we paid attention to that during development. However, one or two questions may arise from time to time.
