With the new Viltrox AF 24mm F/1.8 FE lens with Sony E-Mount, we at Rollei, in cooperation with Viltrox, are once again launching a powerful, versatile model from the Viltrox lens series.
Photographer Stephan Wiesner extensively reviewed our lens on his YouTube channel and put it through its paces in a direct comparison with the Sony GMaster. The video reveals how well the Viltrox lens fares against the many times more expensive lens and what surprising insights he gained.
First, the haptic properties: The lens is made entirely of metal, except for the lens hood. Apart from the clickless adjustable aperture ring, there are no buttons on the lens. The dimensions of 7 x 8.5 cm, the filter thread diameter of 55 mm, and the weight of 340 grams make it a handy, practical 24mm lens.
With the newly revised autofocus and face and eye detection, the Viltrox lens scores with its fast response times.
As already mentioned, the Viltrox AF 24mm F/1.8 FE lens can be used in many ways. Stephan Wiesner recommends it, for example, for film and video blogs. But the 24mm lens is also ideally suited for landscape, travel or documentary photography. In another aspect, the Viltrox lens impresses with its technical sophistication and repeatedly surpasses the Sony FE 24mm full-frame GMaster lens. Stephan Wiesner shows in his video how cleanly the lens compensates for the so-called "focus breathing" effect or practically does not show it.

Next, Stephan Wiesner takes the lens out for a spin and convinces us with beautiful photos taken in the Lüneburg Heath. The photos speak for themselves!

Subsequently, the individual photo quality features are explicitly compared in the video. Here, too, the Viltrox lens impresses with wonderful values.
The test charts from the video can be found here.
Conclusion:
Wiesner: "A very, very hot recommendation for filmmakers, so if we didn't already have the GMaster (...), then tell me why I should pay 1000 Euros more." Our Viltrox AF 24mm F/1.8 FE lens convinced Wiesner with its autofocus, versatile application possibilities, and attractive price-performance ratio. And we are also convinced that the new 24mm lens is the ideal companion.
Have fun filming and photographing!
