Skillfully highlighting the details of a location with light? Of course – photographer Jannik Wagner collaborated with us to show how this challenge can be mastered. For the launch of the LUMIS lights, he had the opportunity to flexibly use the LUMIS U-Light and the LUMIS Compact RGB to implement creative image ideas with the compact LED lights. For his photos during the shoots, Wagner used the Sony A7R3 with the Sigma Art 35 mm f/1.4 DG DN lens.
First Set-Up: Combination of Bi-Color and RGB for Outdoor Lighting

| Focal Length | Aperture | ISO | Exposure | LUMIS Compact RGB Settings | LUMIS U-Light Settings |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 35 mm | F/1.4 | 400 | 1/160 seconds | Blue tone: HUE 237° / Sat 95 with Diffuser | Brightness 100% Color temperature 2,800 - 3,200 Kelvin |
The photographer chose a disused quarry near Kaiserslautern as the location. Dusk was already well advanced, making the use of portable LED lights essential. The LUMIS U-Light was used as the main light at full power, with its color temperature set to a warm white between 2,800 and 3,200 Kelvin throughout the entire shooting. This created a strong contrast between the photographer and the remaining light of the existing twilight. The model stands out through the skillful use of the LUMIS U-Light and is perfectly showcased by the 200 LEDs.

As an additional light source and special highlight, the LUMIS Compact RGB was used, which was placed next to the model in a small cave in the quarry. For the blue tone, he used the specified color settings of the LUMIS Compact RGB at full power. For a softer light, he used the diffuser included with the RGB light.
By illuminating the rock faces, Wagner was able to give the background significantly more structure and also create a mystical and fairytale atmosphere.
Second Set-Up: Creating Creative Light Accents
In the second set-up, the LUMIS Compact RGB, along with the diffuser, was placed on the ground in a bush, shining upwards onto the model. This allowed for the cool remaining light of dusk, which was still faintly visible over the treetops, to be captured in post-processing. Through the flexible use of the compact LED RGB light, the bush in the image gained structure, and the model's silhouette and jawline, which would otherwise have been lost in the darkness, received special emphasis.

| Focal Length | Aperture | ISO | Exposure | LUMIS Compact RGB Settings | LUMIS U-Light Settings |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 35 mm | F/1.4 | 800 | 1/160 seconds | Brightness 100% HUE 237° / Sat 80 - 90 with Diffuser | Brightness 100% Color temperature 2,900 - 3,300 Kelvin |
What settings should you pay attention to during twilight?
In the first set, Wagner photographed in portrait format with an ISO value of 400 and an exposure time of 1/160 seconds. In the second set-up, the photographer focused on a full-body shot of the model. Due to the greater distance and the deep twilight, the ISO value had to be adjusted and was increased to 800.
For illumination, Wagner used two LUMIS LED continuous lights. The LUMIS U-Light with 200 LEDs (100 cool white and 100 warm white LEDs) served as the main light. This offers color temperatures between 2,500 and 8,500 Kelvin, which can be continuously dimmed. By also being able to switch off half of the LED panels, it always adapts perfectly to the setting.
The LUMIS Compact RGB offers 42 warm white LEDs, 42 cool white LEDs, and 36 RGB LEDs. Wagner used the RGB function here, thus employing the compact continuous light as an ideal complement to the LUMIS U-Light and for a creative use of color.
