Fast wide-angle lens with 28mm focal length and F/1.8 for Sony

Rollei, in collaboration with renowned lens manufacturer Viltrox, presents the new "Viltrox 28mm F/1.8 FE Lens with Sony E-Mount". The lightweight wide-angle lens offers a wide maximum aperture of 1.8 and first-class optical coating, without compromising on autofocus or imaging performance. With its outstanding image quality and the ability to isolate subjects from the background, it is ideal for various photography areas. Thanks to its fast, precise, and quiet focusing motor, the new product can also excel in video settings.

Norderstedt, 19.05.2023. Together with the renowned lens manufacturer Viltrox, photo accessories expert Rollei introduces the new "Viltrox 28mm F/1.8 FE Lens with Sony E-Mount". This lightweight wide-angle lens is aimed as an "all-rounder" at a variety of photographers who do not want to forego a large maximum aperture and a first-class optical coating with a 28mm fixed focal length.

The highlight of the new product is its wide maximum aperture of 1.8. While it is rather unusual for lenses with this focal length, Viltrox has managed to master this feat. There are no compromises in autofocus or imaging performance. Despite the slight wide-angle, the large maximum aperture and Sony's full-frame sensor make it possible to effortlessly isolate objects or people from the background. Even in poor lighting conditions, the lens allows for a short exposure time, combined with an ISO value that largely prevents image noise.

Optically, Viltrox equips its new prime lens with a high-quality and robust coating. This virtually eliminates ghosting, chromatic aberrations, and lens flares. The optical design of the lens, optimized for Sony's full-frame sensors, promises virtually distortion-free images despite the slight wide-angle. Shots show high edge sharpness and, even at aperture 1.8, hardly noticeable vignetting, which speaks for the high optical quality of this lens.

The lens is equipped with new autofocus technology. This allows the camera and lens, in conjunction, to easily recognize objects or the eye of a photographed person, depending on the selected focus mode. The fast, quiet, and precise STM motor of the lens proves ideal for automatic focus tracking and thus guarantees a sharp image for every type of subject.

As known from previous models, the "28mm F/1.8 FE Lens with Sony E-Mount" also features a proven and robust design. Via the built-in USB-C interface, the lens manufacturer enables smooth and fast firmware updates.
