First Viltrox lens expands L-Mount Alliance

Norderstedt, 05.02.2026. Together with Viltrox, Rollei introduces the AF 16 mm F/1.8 L, expanding its product range for the first time with a lens for the L-Mount Alliance. This high-speed ultra-wide-angle lens was specially developed for full-frame sensors and offers a wide angle of view with a 16 mm focal length, making it ideal for landscape, architecture, interior, and astrophotography, as well as for video productions.

With a maximum aperture of F/1.8, the lens delivers high performance even in low light and allows for creative possibilities with shallow depth of field thanks to its high light gathering capability. The optical construction consists of 15 elements in 12 groups and integrates both ED elements and aspherical lenses, which minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure sharp clarity right into the corners of the image. An HD Nano coating effectively reduces flares, even against backlighting. 9 aperture blades ensure pleasant bokeh.

The integrated STM motor with lead screw technology operates quietly and precisely, making the lens excellently suited for both photography and videography. The autofocus with supported eye autofocus enables fast tracking of moving subjects. Thanks to internal focusing, the overall length remains constant during focusing – a clear advantage when used with gimbals or rigs. Weighing approximately 550 grams, the lens sits comfortably in the hand and does not overly burden mobile setups.

Operation is via a precise aperture ring, an MF/AF switch, and a freely assignable FN button that supports individual workflows. The integrated OLED display on the lens, which shows focus distance, aperture value, and stored presets, adds a feature that primarily saves time and increases overview in professional use.

With a minimum focusing distance of only 27 centimeters, the Viltrox 16 mm F/1.8 L also opens up creative close-ups and enables impressive perspectives with pronounced spatial depth. The robust metal housing is equipped with dust protection, making it suitable for use in demanding outdoor conditions. A USB-C port on the lens ensures fast firmware updates to keep performance always up to date.

The 77 mm filter thread allows the use of standard filters. EXIF data is fully transmitted, which facilitates integration into digital workflows. The dimensions of 10.3 x 8.5 x 8.5 centimeters make the lens compact enough for longer sessions without sacrificing stability and quality.

The Viltrox AF 16 mm F/1.8 L is now available for pre-order at a price of 599 Euro (RRP) in the Rollei online shop at www.rollei.de/viltrox-16mm-l and is expected to be available from 25.02.2026.
