Daniel Arnzen was drawn to Europe's northernmost island by its impressive landscape. From his perspective, Iceland offers the perfect backdrop for spectacular landscape photography! He mainly works in wedding and couple photography, which is why he traveled to Iceland with his models to fulfill his long-cherished dream. Here, he was able to perfectly combine landscape photography with wedding and couple photography.

Daniel had been looking for a fast 85mm lens for some time to capture the special look of portraits and to make focusing on people easier. With his Nikon Z6ii and the new Viltrox lens, which he was able to test in collaboration with us, the photographer stated that he had "found a serious alternative to the original Nikon lens in terms of price and functionality."

The advantages of the 85mm lens for Arnzen

The Viltrox lens has a metal casing, which gives it a high-quality and robust impression, according to Arnzen. The focus ring is easy to adjust manually, and the autofocus immediately impressed him. The STM autofocus works quickly, precisely, and reliably, which is enormously important in turbulent shoots. Due to the windy conditions and moving subjects, it was essential for him to be able to set a sharp focus automatically. Even at the smallest aperture, the lens delivered impressive sharpness. The bokeh effect also convinced the photographer with its harmonious gradients, as can be clearly seen in the following landscape images.

A moment of togetherness in front of an atmospheric waterfall

The first shooting spot was the Helgufoss waterfall near Reykjavik. This insider tip has not yet spread among tourists, which is why it offered a perfect backdrop for a couple's shoot. The contrast between the bright ceiling and the water and the dark surroundings created a mystical overall picture. Arnzen worked with an aperture of F/2.2 and an exposure time of 1/400, which allowed enough daylight to enter to achieve a breathtaking photo without an additional light source.

Splashes of color on the beach

Next, they went to Reynisfjara beach, in the south of the island, which is very popular with tourists. This is due, among other things, to the special black sand beach. This was also the ideal basis for the following setup of the photographer.

By using the 85mm lens, the focus could be specifically directed at the model and her red dress.

The rough and windy conditions on the beach made shooting difficult for the photographer. The long dress was hard to control and had to be held by Daniel. This meant he only had one hand on the camera. But even under these conditions, he managed to take sharp pictures, thanks to the strong autofocus. He worked with low ISO and small aperture.

Wanderlust and Boho-Vibes

Outfit and location change: white wedding dress and black country road. Daniel's trained eye immediately recognized the contrast he wanted to capture. So, at the selection of his last shooting location on the sparsely traveled road, a spontaneous shoot took place, where the mountain scenery in the background represents a perfect example of the combination of wedding and landscape photography.

Excellent for shots with models and landscapes

At the end of his shoot in Iceland, the photographer was very satisfied. The lens is a strong alternative to his current lenses. He is already looking forward to more tours with the Viltrox lens and can only recommend it to portrait and landscape photographers who also work with a Nikon camera. You get a lens with fast and reliable autofocus, which you can always rely on, even in difficult shooting conditions.

…dass hier nicht ein Bild mit 1.8er Blende hochgeladen ist, spricht nicht gerade für die Linse…
