Our Lumen Flex continuous lights are already very popular with our customers, and professional photographer Mario Dirks has already taken a look at them and tested them extensively – and published some very interesting articles about them.

Now, Dirks has released another video, this time focusing on portraits with flexible lights. More precisely, he creates a head-and-shoulders portrait with model Hauke.

Great advantages in operation

He starts with the Lumen M, which he uses as the main light, while the Lumen S serves as the fill light. In this case, he uses the Lumen M with only 50 percent power, which is great because the studio around him is relatively dark. However, this is enough for Mario Dirks, as he shoots with a wide aperture and with a 1/125 s at ISO 400 – and the resulting images already look great, but are too bright for Mario Dirks. No problem – simply change the brightness quickly on the device itself or via app, and you can continue right away. A great advantage of our lights.

Mario Dirks tests Lumen Flex

To then achieve some more exciting contrasts, Dirks also uses Lumen S and even our largest Flex continuous light, the Lumen Flex in size L – specifically as a contour light. To better illustrate the comparison, Mario Dirks once again shows the differences with all three different settings.

What the professional photographer says about the lights

The professional photographer's conclusion is very positive. He says: "I am positively surprised by the lamps, they do what they are supposed to. They are light, compact, and flexible – I can do everything with them that I would usually do with flashes. Except, of course, that I don't have that extreme light output. But I have other advantages. I can shoot with a wide aperture, I am also mobile with them, I can change the color temperature, I can change the brightness, and as I said, they have a very small packing size, they are flexible, I can even attach them somewhere with gaffer tape or scotch tape, I am mobile. So really a great idea, innovative, I hadn't known it before, and I wish you a lot of fun trying it out."
