Our transparent Lensballs were already a great success, being very popular with our customers. But one thing was asked for again and again – namely colored Lensballs. And for this reason, we now also offer colored Lensballs: purple, blue, green, red and gold.

But what actually makes such a Lensball so special? Photographer and photo trainer Frank Fischer explains this very clearly in a great new video that he recorded for the launch of our new colored Lensballs.

80 Millimeters in Diameter – Diverse Application Possibilities

In the video, he explains that the glass spheres, which we offer in 80 millimeters diameter, can not only be used with a wide-open aperture to achieve a certain bokeh, but also with a slightly more closed aperture, which makes the photographic possibilities very diverse.

The functionality is quite simple. You only have to focus on the Lensball, so that the reflection of the background becomes visible in the Lensball. This creates a circular 180-degree image of the background, allowing you to create beautiful motifs.

Caution is advised in this area of application

In the video, Frank Fischer also gives examples of applications, such as placing the Lensball in a puddle and then photographing the reflection. Or you can use it for architectural photography – examples are plentiful in the video.

However, Frank Fischer warns against one area of application, even though these types of images are particularly popular. Because of the magnifying effect of the Lensballs, the glass spheres can sometimes get hot. Therefore, caution is advised especially in dry grass, as fires can be ignited by prisms that bundle light.

Most importantly, you need a little light so that the subject is sufficiently visible – and then the fun Lensball photography can begin.
